Mentoring
Exchanged Life Counseling is a Bible based method of counseling that is rooted in the finished work of
Christ. Exchanged Life counselors and mentors believe that living the exchanged life is a better way to live.
2 Corinthians 5:21, “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
Exchanged Life counselors and mentors believe that the Bible is true and sufficient for addressing all of life’s problems. Titus 2:11-12, “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age.”
The purpose is not to convince clients that they are sufficient in their own power either to change themselves or to improve their own self-images. The counselors and mentors guide clients into God’s truth and teach them that our true identities are found in Christ. The focus is not on learning how to manage our sins by self-effort, but in living freely and abundantly under the new covenant of Grace, knowing that God loves us unconditionally and has chosen to forgive all of our sins and to write his laws upon our hearts. (Hebrews 8:7-13)
The Exchanged Life counselors and mentors have all been trained by the Association of Exchanged Life Ministries. Some counselors are Masters level mental health clinicians while others are lay persons trained as mentors. Gena is certified as a mentor in The Exchanged Life method. She offers individual or small group mentoring for women.
Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for
me.” It has been said that, “Christ gave his life for us and put his life in us, so that he could live his life through us.”
